This week, we are celebrating a big birthday for a very special lady who loves chocolate, the color purple and can’t get enough of the cold, the winter, and the snow. So here is a table of treats in her honor. It is complete with chocolate cupcakes, chocolate covered strawberries, color-coordinated flowers, and of course, some sparkly snowflakes.
I put this display together very quickly and pretty inexpensively too. Let’s take a look.
I ordered a purple sequin runner from Amazon for about $10.
The cake stand was a $4 DIY project from the dollar store. All the other glass dishes and bases were things I already owned. Some special pieces from my mom and grandmother and other pieces I picked up on clearance or at second hand stores. Second hand stores can be genius spots for finding unique glassware, candle holders, serving dishes, etc.
Chocolate covered strawberries are always delicious. Using high quality chocolate will definitely make them even tastier as well! I decided to do dark chocolate and white chocolate and use lavender sugar crystals which gave a wintery, frosted look to the dark chocolate ones. Then, I melted some lavender candy melts and used a piping bag to pipe a drizzle onto half of my white chocolate dipped berries.
For the cupcakes, I went with a box mix for chocolate cake because I was a little short on time that day. Then I made a homemade vanilla buttercream frosting and piped it onto the chilled cupcakes. The 2D tip (closed star) by Wilton worked beautifully, even for my mini cupcakes.
I made the purple decorations on top the day before. For those, you can choose to melt any chocolate you like or select a bag of candy melts to match your color scheme. Warm them on the stove and pour into a piping bag. You can use a pattern under your parchment paper to trace like I did here with this design.
Here is a copy of the image template I used to place under a sheet of parchment paper and follow the outline.
Check out the video of how to make them here:
Or you can simply pipe the chocolate in a free handed design on the parchment paper like I did here with the letter “B”.
I completed the table with some special dark Hershey’s kisses…the ones in the purple wrappers 😉 and lastly some fresh flowers completed the table. Let’s be honest, what Birthday girl doesn’t appreciate some beautiful flowers on her birthday?
I’d love to hear your thoughts! Please leave any suggestions, comments, or questions below and I will be sure to get back to you!
